When Sweet Jesus first opened last week, in the middle of September, I was questioning the time of year. However, thanks to the bizarre return of summer to Toronto, coupled with anticipation, locals have been asking: Is Sweet Jesus the next Uncle Tetsu? The lines spilling out of the new shop may spell yes.
Sweet Jesus specializes in over the top soft serve cones, coffee, and churros. The combination of these delicious aromas greet you when you step into the shop on King & John.
At $6 for a Pimped Out Cone, prices seem steep. However, it’s a price that all of us, myself included, seem willing to pay for these outlandish creations.
Pimped out cones include:
Krusty the Cone (Cotton candy, fresh ground sprinkles, cotton candy sauce, vanilla soft serve), Banging Brownie ( Dark chocolate brownie chunks, walnuts, caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream) and
Lemon Coconut Cream Pie (Sour Lemon Curd, Toasted Coconut rumble, Vanilla Soft Serve.
Check out the menu!
Soft serve flavours include: Burnt Marshmellow, Chocolate, Banana, Vanilla and Raspberry Lemonade. A soft serve cone will run you $4.
I had the Campfire S’mores with burnt marshmallow and chocolate twist soft service, graham crackers and chocolate sauce. The cone was huge and quite substantial for soft serve. I did find the chocolate half a little watery, but need to investigate by tasting more flavours! Overall it was delicious and decadent.
For those not into ice cream, the shop also sells Mexican frozen popsicles, espresso, and tea.
Sweet Jesus is at 106 John St, Toronto.
