In a small room above Kinton Ramen 2, skewers of meat are grilling on an open grill. Welcome to Kintori Yakitori. So what’s yakitori? To put it simply, grilled skewers of chicken. Now, yakitori can be any type of grilled meat, fish, or veggies. The bamboo skewers and charcoal are imported from Japan. The intimate space features an open grill where you can see your skewers being cooked and some wallpaper that I really liked. Kintori Yakitori is part of the Kinka family, owners of Kinka Izakaya.
The menu is varied, and features yakitori, of course, but also other items. Before we dug into the skewers, we had a series of appetizers and cocktails.
The drinks menu has cocktails, beer, wine and sake. How delicious does this “squeeze your own” grapefruit vodka drink look?

Grapefruit Vodka Cocktail
Then came the food!

Chicken Broth

Japanese Pickled Veggies

Nikumiso Kyabetsu. Cabbage salad with housemade chicken miso dip. Very tasty!
Kintori Yakitori has a large selection of skewers to choose from. We were served a selection of innards, which isn’t my cup of tea. I’ve included them here for those that love them!

Premium Gyu-Tongue (premium beef tongue)

Hatsu (chicken heart)

Reba (chicken liver)

Zuri (chicken gizzards)
After, we moved onto some different cuts of meat.

Huge Chicken Wing

Negima (chicken thigh & scallion)

Negi Shio Gyu (beef with scallion sauce)
These three skewers were my favourite!

Asparagus (panko breaded deep-fried asparagus wrapped with bacon)
This was so delicious. Crispy and perfect with the smokey bacon.

Tsukune ( chicken meatball)
I loved how moist and flavourful these meatballs were.

Uzura Kushi Age (panko breaded deep-fried quail eggs)
A very tasty take on scotch eggs.
They look small, but a few skewers can fill you up! If you are somehow still hungry, there’s more!

Dashi Maki ( Japanese omelette)

Yaki Onigiri (grilled rice ball with plum filling & teriyaki sauce)
and last but not least…

Houji Cha Brulee (roasted green tea crème brulee)
This was a fun, extremely filling and satisfying meal. This would be a great place for a group of friends or a fun first date! What skewer is your favourite?
Kintori Yakitori is at 668 Bloor Street on the 2nd floor.
