Canada’s Most Innovative New Products for 2014

1-IMG_0647 Last week, 39 new products were awarded the Product of the Year Canada™ seal of approval. I had no idea that this existed!

These products range from pet food to beverages to cosmetics. Everything!

“According to our research, innovation is an important factor for Canadians in choosing products,” said Jennifer Litterick, Group Publisher, Marketing and Retail Group, Rogers Media. “This year’s winners are not only innovative, they are convenient and easy to use. Consumers are faced with so many choices when they shop, and the Product of the Year seal helps them make decisions and leads them to quality products they can trust.”

See for yourself! Check out all of the winners here.  Below are my personal favourites!

Vaseline-Spray-&-Go: Get moisturized in a flash! This spray goes on in seconds and dries quickly.

Head to Tail: These pet friendly vitamins are an easy way to keep your furry friend healthy and happy.

Longo’s Chicken Pad Thai Stir Fry: A pre-packaged meal for busy lifestyles! The kit comes with chicken, veggies, and of course, Pad Thai sauce.

1-IMG_0649Blue Piston Wireless Speaker: I just love this! It was my favourite product. It’s really durable, has a great build and sound quality packed into one small shape. It’s coming camping with me this year!

Setting the Bubbles Free with SodaStream

Earlier this month, I went to an event that featured SodaStream. Prior to this, I had no idea what a SodaStream machine was. I have a vague memory of a childhood friend having an Italian Soda machine, and that basically sums up my knowledge.

So what is SodaStream? SodaStream is a machine that allows you to turn tap water (any water, really) into a delicious sparkling flavoured drink. You can make your own pop at home! Aside from saving money, this machine can help impact the environment in a positive way. If you are making your own pop at home, then it cuts down on the amount of plastic pop bottles you are consuming.

You can try over 60 flavours with your SodaStream machine, thanks to Kraft. Choose from favourite Kool-Aid flavours, Crystal Lite or go for classics such as lemonade, cherry cola, cream soda and more!

If that wasn’t enough, there’s really nothing stopping you from buying your own syrups and experimenting. I have some serious plans to make a Shirley Temple.

I was given my own SodaStream to try out and to set the bubbles free in my own house! I had a lot of fun setting it up.

The starter kit is pretty simple to use, and comes with a carbonator bottle, 9 different flavour samples and an easy how-to guide. To set it up, all I had to do was pop the carbonator into the machine. Once that was done, I filled up the 1liter bottle that came inside of my kit with water. I attached it to the machine and pushed down to choose my level of carbonation.

As you push down, the machine lights up to let you know what level of carbonation your drink has. This was lots of fun! I like my drink fizzy, so I pushed a few times.

And that’s it! You have a deliciously fizzy drink waiting to be enjoyed. This would be really fun to use while entertaining.

What do you think? Would you try a SodaStream machine? Do you own one?

June Luxe Box Unboxing!

So even though I don’t wear that much makeup, I enjoy hoarding it, and looking at all of the awesome packages.
And occasionally wearing it. I also adore getting packages in the mail. For all these reasons and more, I decided to give Luxe Box a try.
In case you didn’t know, Luxe Box is a beauty box from Loose Button that is delivered monthly with 3-5 fancy makeup/skin care samples. The samples are “deluxe” sized. It was $9.99, but with it’s public launch it has raised to $12. (shipping to Canada included.)

My box came today, and it had a tracking number from Canada Post, so I knew exactly when it would arrive.

The box itself is really pretty! I love kraft paper anything. It might be interesting if they changed the box a bit each month, or for special holidays!

I like the care that they placed into the packaging. It came with a little card telling me what each product was.
I bee-lined to the nail polish.

The nail polish is from China Glaze, and was a pretty good size! It was 9.5ml
The colour is a little bit weird for me, a kind of grey violet. I think that this colour was popular for the spring,
a kind of nude nail look? I had been interested in trying it, but it looks kinda strange on me. Maybe because my skin is darker? It dried quickly, and was easy and smooth to put on.

The next sample was the eye shadow, which had been upgraded to full size. (yay!)

The eyeshadow was by Laura Mercier. Again, I’m not that fond of the colour. It’s a kind of pale sandy peach. It’s okay, but doesn’t really do anything on my face. I’ll try it again and maybe put a bit more on to see the full effect.

The last sample was a Dermalogica daily microfoliant.

I’m pretty excited to use this. It’s like a little talcum powder, but for your face! And it exfoliates!
The sample is also pretty big, 13 grams.

They also threw in this tiny chocolate.

All in all, I would rate this box 3.5/5. It was fun to receive, and the products are good, but would be better if the colours were better suited to all skin tones. I know it’s hard, though, to find colours that would be good for everyone!
I’m also still not entirely convinced that it’s worth paying for samples. However, I really liked the sizes of the products.

I am going to order a July Luxe Box, and hopefully it will have more samples and more diverse colours! I’m looking forward to some of the products that the site says are coming. ( benefit, balmshell, stila and anna sui )
Until next time!
