Paradise in Prince Edward County at the Drake Devonshire

1-IMG_0354 1-IMG_0360I had been obsessively watching the Drake Devonshire hotel being built via blog posts and tweets for months. I had never been to Prince Edward County, and despite hearing from all my foodie friends and the interwebs what a foodie mecca the county was, I waited to ensure that my visit would coincide with their opening date.

When they revealed their opening date, I planned the perfect weekend, grabbed my boyfriend (okay, so he drove.) and headed up there.

It was pretty much heaven. (more…)

International House Hotel in New Orleans

1-Android 2014One of my favourite things about traveling is to discover small hotels. I would much rather stay in a cool hostel or a unique hotel than a big box hotel.

That’s why I was so happy that I was invited to stay at the International House Hotel on my trip to New Orleans! This whimsical hotel is within walking distance of all the New Orleans hot spots- the French Market, Bourbon Street and the French Quarter are just steps away. (more…)

Hotel Metro in London, Ontario

I have this weird thing where I like to look up boutique hotels in different cities, so I know where I would want to stay if I ever visited. (Clearly I have too much spare time.)

Hotel Metro was on my list ever since I came across them years earlier online. So, I was really happy to see that I’d been booked into the Hotel Metro for my visit to the Food & Wine Show! Hotel dreams do come true.

Eaton Chelsea Hotel in Toronto

IMG_4227

The Eaton Chelsea Hotel may be one of the best kept secrets in Toronto. At least to this local girl. It was obvious when I checked in that this wasn’t a secret to travelers around the world. The hotel was very busy with families, couples and businesses travelers checking in.

The Eaton Chelsea hotel was given a fresh re-branding in July. This is Canada’s largest hotel with 1500 guest rooms! And it’s right in the heart of downtown Toronto. There are four restaurants and lounges in the hotel including Bb33 Bistro & Brasserie, Monarchs Pub, Market Garden and Elm Street Lounge. Click here to find out more.

I enjoyed my stay in a t 315 ft Deluxe King room. The bed was comfy and the room was spacious, with a nice view! Although the hotel was busy and my room faced the street, the room was very quiet. I loved the little sitting area, and was pampered with their customised bathroom amenities.

Complimentary amenities included:
• Hotel-wide Wi-Fi Internet
• Iron and ironing board
• In-room coffee and tea
• LCD flat screen TV

All in all, this is a large hotel with cozy rooms and a fantastic location.

The Eaton Chelsea, Toronto is at 33 Gerrard Street West, Toronto, Ontario.

The Treadwell Inn in St. Andrews, New Brunswick

I was lucky enough to stay in the gorgeous historic Treadwell Inn during my stay in St. Andrews-by-the-Sea in New Brunswick.

The rooms were beautiful. My spacious room had a comfortable double bed, clean washroom and lots of natural light. Of course, WiFi was readily available. My favouite part of my room was….

….the balcony with Muskoka chairs and a view of the ocean! I curled up and watched the sunset.

The view from my balcony!

In the morning, breakfast was served downstairs in a charming room. Some guests get really comfortable. A guest came down in (we’re pretty sure) bare feet and only his bathrobe. It truly feels like home!

The Treadwell Inn is right in the historic district of St.Andrews-by-the-Sea with lots of shops and tiny cafes to keep you occupied. Speaking of shops, foodies will be pleased to see that there is an gourmet olive oil store attached to the inn!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The owners were very friendly, the Inn the beautiful and the location was convenient.

The Treadwell Inn is at 129 Water Street, St. Andrews New Brunswick, E5B 1A7  Canada

Hampton Inn & Suites Buffalo Downtown

When I checked into the Hampton Inn & Suites Buffalo Downtown, I wasn’t expecting much other than a comfortable bed. I did get that…but also a whole lot more!

The hotel was very modern and fresh, but still very comfortable. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, the staff was very friendly.

The lobby is spacious and has a library for you to work in or just read a book. The lobby also has complimentary coffee and tea, which is always a great perk.

The hotel also has a pool if you enjoy swimming, free airport transfer and free WiFi. The hotel is smack in the middle of downtown Buffalo, so you can’t beat the location. Niagara Falls is about 10 minutes away.

I was traveling with my whole family, and we had decided to share a room. We all agreed that the beds were extremely comfortable, and we all liked the simple, elegant decor.

I have this thing against beige hotel rooms, so I really appreciated the pretty, swirly carpet and the slate grey walls.

My sister and I loved the bathroom, because it was huge and had plenty of towels for a family of 4!

August 2013

Without a doubt, the free breakfast the next morning was the best part of our stay. All guests at the Hampton Inn & Suites enjoy a free hot breakfast. (not continental!)

The breakfast was beyond my expectations. It included: bacon (!), scrambled eggs, toast, bagels, English muffins, fruit, pastries and waffles.

Yeah, that’s right. You get to make your own waffle. They have a machine with batter and a cast iron waffle maker. You could potentially have unlimited waffles, although the breakfast is pretty filling, so one will probably do.

Another favourite was the healthier choice of Kashi cereal, along with your usual staples of Fruit Loops and Frosted Flakes. Also, how cute is that to-go cup?

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Hampton Inn. I highly recommend that you stay here if you are ever in Buffalo! Oh, and do the Silo City Tour and visit the art gallery.
