Camping at Awenda Provincial Park

As much as I love exploring the world, a large part of my heart is devoted to traveling around Ontario. We have so many amazing places and spaces. One of my favourite things to do in the summer and fall is to explore Ontario Parks. With 330 parks to explore, it can take quite a while to put a dent into that list. Especially if you’re like me, and keep visiting parks that you fall in love with.

This summer, I headed to one of my favourite parks, Awenda Provincial Park. Awenda is near Midland Ontario on the Georgian Bay. The park has 2,900 hectares of land and pristine shoreline.

Bear Campsite 142

The park has 6 campsites to choose from. We chose to camp at the radio-free Bear campground. I love radio free campgrounds because I’m a grump and like silence when I camp. Our campsite (#142) was rated average. It was shady with lots of trees, and was close to the comfort station. (more…)

Kingston Winter Weekend Getaway

Kingston, Ontario is one of those cities that I always end up stopping in on my way to another place, and always end up saying, I need to come back here! I was in desperate need of a winter staycation, and I decided to finally make Kingston my destination…and I already can’t wait to go back.

Where to Stay

Kingston isn’t too far from Toronto, just a 2.5 hour drive. We stayed in the ultra modern Delta Waterfront hotel, perched right by the water.

A Winter Adventure at Arrowhead Provincial Park

Who said winter is for hibernating indoors? Bundled up in my warmest down-filled winter coat and boots, I took the Parkbus, along with other bloggers, journalists and photographers, to Arrowhead Provincial Park in Hunstville. In celebration of Ontario Parks 125th anniversary and the Arrowhead Visitor Centre grand opening, Ontario Parks arranged the tour. Just over two hours north of Toronto, Arrowhead is the perfect getaway to explore nature and beautiful scenery without venturing out too far away from home. (more…)

Maple Weekend in Muskoka

Maple syrup, liquid gold…whatever you’d like to call it, it’s delicious. We’re lucky to live in Canada, the land of maple syrup. Virtually all maple syrup is produced in Canada. There’s a few pockets in the USA that make syrup as well, but the vast majority is here. Right now, we’re in the heart of maple syrup season. Muskoka is celebrating with a Maple Syrup Festival that runs from now until April 20th. I spent the weekend exploring Muskoka and trying delicious maple products. Thanks for hosting, Muskoka Tourism.

We spent the weekend at the Lone Pine Inn. I stayed in a patio suite that had beautiful picture windows, a cozy living room, and a full kitchen. It was like staying in a cozy cottage. We were greeted in the best possible way, with a 6 pack of local beer from Sawdust City Brewing. (The owners of the inn actually own the brewery as well.) (more…)

Weekend Getaway: Winter in Grey County

Spring may be around the corner, but snow isn’t going anywhere, at least not for a little bit. Why not enjoy the crisp cold air and fluffy white snow? I spent a weekend exploring Grey County.

When people say that there’s nothing to do in the winter, it baffles me. There’s so much to do! Whether you stay in Toronto or go a bit further to neighboring regions, you can definitely find a way to enjoy the winter.

For me, one of my winter goals for the last few years has been to go on a sleigh ride. Last month, in Grey County, my sleigh ride dreams came true! (more…)
