This book is an eclectic mix of science and magic, and is unlike any other book that I've ever read. I actually can't explain it, but know that it involves witches and rocket scientists, hipsters and love stories, and a new piece of social tech known as "Caddy" that can organize your life and help you find your soulmate to boot.

If you're into funny, quirky books with unique characters and a large helping of apocalyptic doom, you'll love this book.

Childhood friends Patricia Delfine and Laurence Armstead didn't expect to see each other again, after parting ways under mysterious circumstances during high school. After all, the development of magical powers and the invention of a two-second time machine could hardly fail to alarm one's peers and families.

But now they're both adults, living in the hipster mecca San Francisco, and the planet is falling apart around them. Laurence is an engineering genius who's working with a group that aims to avert catastrophic breakdown through technological intervention into the changing global climate. Patricia is a graduate of Eltisley Maze, the hidden academy for the world's magically gifted, and works with a small band of other magicians to secretly repair the world's ever-growing ailments. Little do they realize that something bigger than either of them, something begun years ago in their youth, is determined to bring them together--to either save the world, or plunge it into a new dark ages.

[Win it!] Advanced Screening of How to Be Single

HTBS_750x1000_IT

I am suffering from a serious lack of chick flicks in theatres. Thank goodness for this funny flick that will be hitting theatres on February 12th! How to Be Single stars Dakota Johnson (“Fifty Shades of Grey”), Rebel Wilson (“Pitch Perfect”), Damon Wayans Jr. (“Let’s Be Cops”), Anders Holm (“Neighbors,” “The Intern”), Alison Brie (“Get Hard”), Nicholas Braun (“The Perks of Being a Wallflower”), Jake Lacy (HBO’s “Girls”), with Jason Mantzoukas (“Neighbors,” TV’s “The League”) and Leslie Mann (“This is 40”). (I love Leslie Mann!) (more…)

A Date with Miss Fortune

I’m a sucker for rom coms…especially if they are Canadian and filmed in Toronto!
A Date with Miss Fortune hits theaters today, and it’s hilarious!
What would you do if you fell in love with someone…but your fortune teller told you that he wasn’t the man for you? And your family hated him? This is the dilemma that Maria (Jeannette Sousa) is faced with. The story of her relationship with Jack (Ryan K. Scott), a struggling sitcom writer, is told while they sit in a diner together in a pretty clever way. (more…)

The Magicians on Showcase & a Contest!

I am SO excited for this series, The Magicians, to premiere on Showcase on Monday January 25th 9pm! I remember reading the book that the show is based on,The Magicians, a best-selling book by Lev Grossman, and liking it a lot. It’s kinda like a darker, older Harry Potter. (Not that Harry Potter isn’t dark.)

The Magicians stars Jason Ralph as Quentin Coldwater, a gifted grad student chosen to attend Brakebills University in upstate New York. He and his friends soon discover that the magical fantasy world they read about as children is all too real – and poses grave danger to humanity.

Haven’t read the book yet? I’m giving away a prize pack to a lucky winner. The prize will include copy of Lev Grossman’s The Magicians, a branded bookmark and a deck of cards. Enter below!

#IndigoBookClub’s January Pick

reading-under-covers

When I was in elementary school, I was a nerdy kid. I would get in trouble the most for – get this – reading under my desk during school, or reading under the covers at night.

Many years later, I still love books. I love books so much. I often have one stashed in my purse, some on my Kobo, and a bunch on my cell phone just in case.

Although I’m a huge book lover, I’ve found out that I’m actually reading less as I get sucked into the void of Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. I want to keep up my reading, don’t you?

That’s why I love the Indigo book club! Every month, a new book is featured, and then a book chat takes over on Twitter. (more…)

King of the Bootleggers at Casa Loma

King of the BootleggersI have a love for urban exploring that I rarely get to indulge. So, when I heard about Casa Loma’s newest Escape Game, I was really excited. Casa Loma is a legend and historic site in Toronto. This sprawling mansion has been the scene of many events and beautiful weddings.
King of the Bootleggers Casa LomaThis winter, people will flock there for a very different experience. King of the Bootleggers is set in the 1920s and takes you through the tunnels beneath the castle. (This is all I needed to be into this. Tunnels and flappers. Yes, and yes.) (more…)

Andy Warhol is one of my favourite artists. It’s been such a great year in Toronto for Andy Warhol exhibits, and the fun continues with the newest exhibition to hit Toronto. Andy Warhol: Stars of the Silver Screen  is a massive exhibition at the TIFF Bell Lighthouse. The one of a kind exhibit shares Warhol’s collection of Hollywood memorabilia, including 8x10s, magazines, posters, and costume pieces. There is also an amazing selection of his art ( drawings, screen prints and photographs.) along with video and TV work.

This exhibition runs until January 24th and admission is $13.

As the first giveaway in my 12 Days of Christmas Cheer, I’m giving away a pair of tickets!

One lucky winner will win an Evening with Andy Warhol! This package includes two (2) exhibition tickets and two (2) film tickets to Father of the Bride (January 2 screening). Tickets to the exhibition expire on December 31st.
