I’ve been dying to go to Kitten and Bear ever since I first heard about it last summer. Unfortunately, they close quite early so I never got the chance.
One afternoon I found myself with some free time and made a beeline to their little shop!
All jams at Kitten and the Bear are made in-house. The jams change with the seasons, and includes jams, jellies and marmalades. They make 50 to 100 variety of jams a year! Jams are traditionally made in the French style, from local and sustainable fruits as much as possible.
This Winter Spiced Banana Jam caught my eye, and I had to take it home. It was so good on everything! Warm, spicy with just the right amount of banana. Yum.
The menu is quite small, and one of the downsides is that you can’t just order a scone and a cup of tea to drink there, you have to order the full tea service. (Scones are available for takeout, however.) This wasn’t a problem for me, as I like to have the opportunity to have afternoon tea as often as possible.
I sat down and treated myself to Tea for One ($14). This includes one freshly baked scone made in-house from scratch (using Stirling Creamery butter) Devonshire clotted cream, and jam and tea served in vintage china.
First, I selected my tea from their collection of Sloane Fine Tea. Aren’t the bottles beautiful? I chose the Oolong Creme.
Then my tea and scone were served up.
Isn’t it adorable? I loved that they used antique silver and linens. It also helped that the buttermilk scone was perfect. Fluffy inside with a great crust. The jams were a great condiment!
Wanna visit? Keep in mind that the shop is very small and can only fit 5 seated guests. They also don’t take reservations, so keep your fingers crossed! You can also order bundles of scones to for take out in advance.
