Now that summer is finally here, my Fit Chicks group has moved outside to a nearby park for our bootcamp! It’s nice to work out in the park. Although there are more bugs (ick) there’s also cute dogs and adorable children.
In class, we’ve been doing Tabatas, and I was surprised to discover that I like them! I didn’t know what Tabatas were, so you may not either. Tabata training is a high-intensity interval training (HIIT). It consists of eight rounds of ultra-high-intensity exercises in a specific 20-seconds-on, 10-seconds-off interval.
In class, we’ll do a set of lunges, fast punches and squats in this order. There are lots of different moves so you never get bored, and they are just short enough that you can get through them. It’s very efficient and is definitely a good workout. My body hurts in a good way after them!
July is coming fast! Are you interested in trying a Fit Chicks class? Head to the website, new bootcamps will start next week! http://www.fitchicks.ca
If you had told me that I would be sweating it out in a room full of women at a boot camp, I would have told you you were mistaken. It’s not that I don’t like to work out, but I prefer my exercise to feel more like I’m doing an activity. Kickboxing and ballet barre fitness are more my cup of tea.
I’m getting married in July and need to get in tip top shape. I decided to try Fit Chicks because it sounded fun and like I would see results. You can choose to do bootcamp in 4 or 8 week sessions, and they have locations all over the city.
The first two classes that I did were hard work, but varied. We would do a short series of exercises in sets. This was really helpful for me, because I didn’t get bored or tired of repeating the same moment over and over. I had fun, and my body is definitely sore but in a good way! I still have many more classes to go, so I’ll keep you posted!

I am sweating in an airy warehouse with exposed brick and beam, filled with lithe people effortlessly keeping up with our fast paced instructor- and I am loving it.
A girl in the back row with me and I exchange glances like, “Crazy, right?” as we sip our water and then jump back in.
Welcome to barre fitness at the Extension Room. I was under the impression that this would be a gentle workout that would somehow make me look like a ballerina. (Go figure.) I should have known better. Being a ballet dancer is hard work! Have you ever looked at a ballerina? They are incredibly fit.
