Volum’Express Rocket Mascara

mascara5

I gave the Rocket Volum’Express mascara to my sister, the Mascara Queen. (seriously.) She liked it!

Maybellinee’s newest  formula is a thin buildable volume mascara so that you can layer up according to your preferences. The wand had small bristles so it avoided clumping.  It lasts all day and was hard to smudge (for those of you that rub your eyes). It is a true black and it’s in stores now!

Essie Sleek Sticks

I have never gotten as many compliments on my nails as I did the day that I rocked the “oh my gold” sleek sticks. Essie’s new nail stickers are available in an array of fun patterns. I generally suck at putting nail stickers on my nails, but these make it worth the fight. They aren’t hard to put on at all, and some are translucent. If you have wide nail beds, you can cut up the extra stickers to fill in the gaps.

I wore the above nail stickers and it was like magic. On my infamously silent commute, a lady asked me how I did that to my nails. She loved them and couldn’t stop staring. Friends would stop mid speech upon noticing my nails and enthusiastically asked me how I did them. Many didn’t believe it was a sticker. This too could happen to you with the awesome Sleek Sticks by Essie! Check out the styles below. I’m giving away sneek-e and croc n’chic.  Enter to win below!

MAC Archie’s Girls Collection

Ahh! The MAC Archie Comic collection is finally here! As a kid I eagerly ready the Betty & Veronica double digest. I love that the duo (trio?) now have their own collection. The Archie’s Girls collection hits stores on Feb. 7th.

This special collection comes in two contrasting colour collections. Peaches and cream Betty has pink tones and pearly colours. Dynamic Veronica features dark reds and purples. The collection features eye shadow, lipgloss, lip stick, eye liner, nail polish and more. Each item is in exclusively designed packaging featuring the girls.

These items look amazing in person. I got to try out a couple and love the Ronnie Red lipstick.

They also have an awesome collection of accessories. I want the heart shaped mirror!

The collection launches today, go check it out! If you spend over $75 you get a cute button from the collection.

Maybelline’s Color Whisper

Maybelline has some glossy new shades that go on sheer. During Fashion Week at Rachel Sin, this is what the models wore down the runway! I was excited to give it a try. This lipstick goes on like a gloss. Maybelline used a gel based formula for a lighter feel and translucent look.

I tried Who Wore It Red-er. It went on smooth and glossy, which was great. This colour is a soft strawberry pink tone, and wasn’t as red as I expected. The colour lasted long and I can see it being a great shade for spring! With 20 shades to choose from, it’s easy to find your perfect match. Check them out!

Unwinding at the Hammam Spa

The Hammam Spa is a welcome oasis from the hustle and bustle of King Street West.
When you step inside, everything is still and calm. And you feel almost instantly better.

I am greeted and shown into the change room. Inside my wooden locker is a wrap and a towel.

I had a brief tour of the spa and was shown a small sitting room where I could relax between treatments (a quick peek at this showed couples canoodling and people sipping tea) and the way to the Hammam.

” “Hammam” translates to “Ritualistic Bath”, and it’s a traditional Turkish bath. Turkish Baths traditionally functioned as steam-filled grottos for segregated social gatherings of the upper classes. Women and men would lounge among themselves, enjoying fragrant steam and luxurious body treatments while discussing politics and gossip.”

This spa features a 500 square foot urban Hammam. It’s co-ed and feels like a natural grotto with black slate surfaces and lit onyx bowls that hold iced towels and cold water to cool down. Eucalyptus oils are diffused in the Hammam, which helps to relax the muscles.

I was excited to try it! I was warned that it could get quite hot (90 degrees at its peak!) so if I felt uncomfortable I was welcome to try it in short bursts. When I went inside, I had the whole place to myself (yes!) and it was incredibly relaxing, warm and soothing. I feel like I definitely sweated out some toxins. As someone who finds it hard to breathe in saunas, I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to handle the Hammam, but I was! It didn’t bother me at all.

After a bit, I was called in for my treatment. There are a variety of treatments available.  I had decided to get the Argan Oil Massage ($155). Argan Oil comes from Morocco and has tons of excellent properties. It promotes anti-aging, protects your skin and hair and can help with blemishes. My massage therapist was very receptive to my needs and adjusted the pressure for me if I thought it was too hard (I’m a wimp.) It was the best massage I ever had! I left feeling refreshed and super relaxed. When I was done, I enjoyed a cup of tea and some dried fruit in the sitting room.

If you are getting stressed out during your holiday shopping, just pop into this spa, take a moment in the steam room, maybe get a treatment…and continue with your day. You’ll feel so much better!

Hammam Spa is located on 602 King Street West.

The  Skyfall Collection features 12 dangerously dazzling new shades for the holidays. I love them! The photos don’t do them justice!

My absolute favourite shade is “The World is Not Enough” It’s a bit hard to see, but it’s a shimmery, glittery purple gray.

A close second would be this bright, shimmery red that is perfect for the holidays. The Spy Who Loved Me is “a red as romantic as the secret agent inside you.”

Backstage at The Collections with MAC & Aveda

I was invited to go backstage with MAC Cosmetics and Aveda during the Collections! Wow, is it ever busy back there. I spent some time watching a M∙A∙C makeup artist get a model ready for the Label  show and explain the vision for the show. The model was prepped to have glowing, natural “California girl” skin. This was achieved by using MAC Care Blends Essential Oils and MAC Taupe Shape Powder Blush.

My favourite part of the look was the bright pop of colour that was added at the end. Each model got a bright, almost neon orange on the lips or eyes.

Aveda was backstage styling hair. The styles that they were creating were sleek rope braids.

Tips Nail Bar were also on hand to give the girls stick on half glitter manicures. They looked great!

Going backstage was lots of fun, thanks MAC & Aveda!  I’ll be going backstage during Fashion week too. Can’t wait!
