One of my favorite Middle-Eastern Restaurants, Paramount, is now an option for Sunday morning brunch! Starting October 24th, the restaurant will be launching their breakfast campaign complete with Middle Eastern, and Canadian staples. I was lucky to be able to have a special preview of the new and traditional additions to the menu.
Some of the items that will be served are: Eggs and Sausage, Omelet with a variety of veggies such as onions and bell peppers, and my favorite, the Manakeesh which is a Middle Eastern breakfast special, sort of like a bagel, almost like a pizza. The Manakeesh is best described as baked dough with thyme, cheese or meat.
Here are my favorite items from the breakfast menu:
Zaatar/Cheese Manakeesh $2.99-$4.99 (Depending on which flavor)
This Manakeesh had two different styles to try. The spices on one side were thyme, sesame seeds and olive oil. It was a nice combination with the other half which was melted akawi cheese.
Brunch lovers rejoice! The Drake One Fifty is now serving up an amazing and delicious brunch. Chef Corrado and his team have created a menu that celebrates Spring’s light flavours and bountiful produce that support many local purveyors and farmers.
One of the reasons that I love the Drake One Fifty so much (other than the stunning design and art) is that they make all of the beads, preserves and pastries in house. They take great care in sourcing items. Their bacon and pork is from Perth Pork, beef from Cumbrae’s, and cheese is from The Cheese Boutique. (more…)
Le Sélect Bistrois a charming place to have weekend brunch. It does feel as if one could be in Paris, instead of in Toronto. (Sigh. Paris.) Dark wood paneling, small fireplaces, comfy seating and quite a large space makes this a lovely spot. Also? They accept brunch reservations! Woo!
Biscuit Bitch is harder to find than you’d expect. Instead of the name being proclaimed loudly on an awning or storefront, it’s quietly presented as a small sticker on the front window. Maybe there are laws about that sort of thing. (If you are looking out for the name, look for Caffe Lieto)
One thing is for sure- Biscuit Bitch has quite the name. This Biscuit-ful cafe offers up a slew of not exactly family friendly named dishes. The cafe is Southern inspired and is located near Pike Place Market.
Hungry? Fill up with a Gritty Cheesy Scrambled Bitch. (Biscuit and Gravy smothered in Cheese, Scrambled Eggs & Garlic Grits) Want something a little smaller? Nosh on a Straight Up Bitch (just a biscuit and sausage gravy). If grits and gravy isn’t your thing, you are welcome to have a Canadian Bitch (Biscuit, Maple Peanut Butter, Bacon) or a Bitch-wich.
Portion sizes are huge and reasonable priced at around $6-$9 a loaded biscuit.
I stuck with the pretty simple, “Bitch Diner Breakfast”, ($7.20) because I’m not a fan of grits/gravy. This breakfast comes with 2 Eggs, a sausage patty, a Big Ass Biscuit, Butter and Jam for $7.20. Now, the biscuit was fluffy and delicious, but I wish that I had gotten a heftier breakfast like the combination biscuits! No matter, next time I visit Seattle, I’ll fix that.
Along with my breakfast, I indulged in a Seattle Fog (a variation of a London Fog, and my current tea obsession).
The boys had no qualms with grits or gravy, and devoured two delicious lookin’ Bitches. Yum.
On a bright winter morning my friend and I set off for brunch at Lola’s Kitchen.
We didn’t have to wait in line at all, but it was a bit busy inside (it was 2pm…what can I say, we brunch late!) and we were seated upstairs. The decor is funky, with interesting light fixtures and unique art on the walls.
Lola offers a variety of yummy sounding dishes for brunch. Gluten Free Granola, Frittata and Eggs Rancheros are just some of the menu options. The one thing that the menu didn’t have was omelets…I love them.
I started off with a hot apple cider drink that was warm and spicy to take the chill off. I had Lola’s Classic Grilled Cheese ($10) with frites and extra bacon ($2). The fries were great! Hand cut and crispy thin with just the right amount of seasoning. The grilled cheese was okay, nothing to write home about. I’m glad I ordered bacon and I really liked the bread. This also came with a side of delicious house made ketchup. Yum!
My friend had the ‘Shroom Benny, which was toasted organic whole wheat biscuits topped with caramelized onions, baby spinach, roasted mushrooms, poached eggs & hollandaise sauce, served with salad. She really liked the mushrooms and the biscuits.
We had decided to share an order of house made pork sausage ($4) which was delicious but the portion was too small. We thought that we would have gotten 2 or three little sausage, but we got one small portion of sliced sausage (above).
With all of the awesome brunch options in Toronto, I’m not sure I’d go back here for that meal. I think I’d try lunch or dinner though and get a side of those yummy fries.
Note: This brunch has changed for the worse, and I would not recommend this for 2015.
Treat your mama to a delectable brunch at Casa Loma! This splurge is truly worth the $51.00 (plus tax). You are greeted with a delicious mimosa, and things only go up from there! It was the best brunch I ever had, (second going to this place. ) They had a breakfast, salad, pasta, carving and of course, dessert station. My favourite was the breakfast station, especially the scrambled eggs with goat cheese, basil and cherry tomato. After brunch, you get to wander the beautiful grounds and take some pictures! (admission is included) Don’t take my word for it, read the menu! It’s sure to impress your mom! Mine loved it.
