[ Review ] Makeup Forever Matte Velvet Skin Full Coverage Foundation

Wearing makeup during the hotter months can always be challenging without the right formula. A freshly applied makeup look can slide right off in under an hour, if the right products aren’t used. If you have oily skin, that time can be cut in half!

Good thing one of my favourite brands, Makeup For Ever, has launched a new Matte Velvet Skin Full Coverage Foundation ($48). The foundation comes in a handy squeeze tube bottle perfect for getting the right amount each time. The foundation comes in 40 different shades, and I tried shade Y455.

Since this foundation boasts to be 24 hr full coverage wear, I was expecting it to be heavy, but was pleasantly surprised when I found it to be light and airy. The formula is made with a new technology called FLEXI-FIT which aids in the breathability and moves with facial movements to avoid cracking and breakdown of the foundation.  A small dime size amount was all I needed to do a full face. Makeup For Ever suggests that a matte primer should be used, however even without primer, straight on the skin, the foundation had a matte finish. You can apply with the Make Up For Ever’s Artisan Brush 108 Large Foundation Brush in order to build more coverage.
I tested this foundation a few times during the hotter days and loved the results! Usually on a hot day, my foundation (especially liquid) will start to break down around my smile lines. This formula held up in the heat even around that tricky area which was a bonus.
My face (which usually gets pretty oily after being in the sun for only a half hour) was surprisingly matte. Towards the end of the day, I did experience a little bit of oil, but over all, it is definitely a go to for a hot day instead of powder.
