The Porch: Amazing view and delicious food to boot!

1-July 20142It’s Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 pm, and there’s already a line up outside of the Rocking Horse Saloon to get into The Porch.

1-IMG_2766After I get in and see the gorgeous view, I’m not surprised!

1-IMG_2723I start the afternoon off with a delicious Mango Giant Margarita ($9.75). True to the name, it came in a giant bucket! It was garnished with fresh fruit and was oh so delicious. It also comes in lime, strawberry and raspberry. Other drinks include Porch Sangria, Country Mimosas, Jack & Coke Slushies and more. See the drink menu here.

The Porch serves a snack menu including pulled pork spring rolls, chicken club sliders and smoked cheddar grilled cheese. Here’s what I had!

1-IMG_2726We had a platter of breads and spreads that included: Artichoke Asiago Dip, Bruschetta,, Grilled Naan, Homemade Nacho Chips and some of the best guacamole I’ve had to date.

1-IMG_2752“The secret is to when you’re juicing the limes for the guac is to use lots of the lime zest as well, the flavour goes really well.,” confides the Porch’s personable chef.

The bruschetta is simple and is made daily using his grandmother’s (delicious, delicious) recipe. Aww. They also make the nacho chips daily and they are perfectly salted.

1-IMG_2730This flat bread ($15) was grilled in the oven and topped with pulled chicken, Gorgonzola cheese, cherry tomatoes and arugula. The blue cheese gives the flat bread/pizza a creamy kick.

1-IMG_2743The last dish was the Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage with Spiced Catsup, Dill Mustard, and Grilled Naan. ($15) We also had a side salad with watermelon citrus vinaigrette. The spicy mustard was made in house with dill.

The catsup was so good, I wish I could have taken home a bottle. The Porch roasts their veggies that they grow themselves (soon they’ll plant a herb garden). Red peppers and tomatoes  are roasted until blistered for the catsup.

The sausage is made with meat from a local farm within the GTA and it’s made with jalapeno and cheddar cheese. It’s spicy with an amazing smoky flavour.

I love the food and the emphasis of local, fresh and made in house items.

1-IMG_2715The food alone is worth coming back here…but lets not forget the amazing patio! There are lots of cozy nooks for sitting and enjoying the view. It’s obviously a popular hang out for the after work crowd, but I imagine that weekend brunch is also a hot ticket!

Every Sunday, The Porch hosts a Picnic on The Porch featuring live music and a DJ from 11AM – 5PM. Dishes include eggs benny, cinnamon toast, breakfast wraps and more. Check it out here.
