I was lucky enough to attend the inaugural Love Food Fest, a foodie haven that brought together 20 chefs to re-imagine childhood favourites- all while raising money for Action Against Hunger.
Mexican Chili by No.7 Hot Sauce
Teeny tiny pizza pockets with a surprise ingredient- heart! Heart and ‘Nduja Pizza Pockets with goat milk ranch dressing from The Dock Ellis.
Grandma’s Creamed Salmon on Toast. The first time I ever had this and surprisingly delicious!
Thanksgiving Dinner from the Drake Hotel. Turkey on a sage and walnut crostini with cranberry and crab apple sauce.
Pad Thai Mac n’ Cheese from Fidel Gastros/Lisa Marie was a creative dish. Of course, you may think that green curry is an odd combination for mac n’ cheese, but Matt can make anything taste amazing!
My favourite dish of the night was from the Mad Mexican. They served up a Chicken Tostada piled high with toppings.
A Taste of Fall, from Chef Ivan Tarazona of Celestin presented a deconstructed chocolate cake.
Bruschetta made with fresh tomatoes from Vicki’s Veggies.
There was so much amazing food. I’m glad that I didn’t have the tough job of the above judges! Amy Rosen, Corey Mintz, Mary Luz Mejia and Abbey Sharp were tasked with judging the dishes that night. The winner? Chef Matt Blondin, from much anticipated Junk Bar that will be opening later this month. He won best dish with his s’mores, and won a trip to Peru to participate in Action Against Hunger initiatives.
If you are looking at those above photos, it’s evident why Junk won with their fantastic s’mores on homemade cookies, warm chocolate and a selection of gourmet topics. Magic.
