Got Brita? Living plastic bottle free

Living in a condo downtown has changed my lifestyle in tiny little ways that I didn’t expect to change. Some things I saw coming. Getting to the office from downtown is so much faster. I love being able to walk to different shops and bakeries. One thing I didn’t consider was my water consumption.
Before we moved into the condo, we had a fridge that had it’s own cold water and ice cubes. Now, our new fridge doesn’t have water and ice built in. As we adjusted to our new condo life, I found myself reaching for bottled water, over and over again. After checking out my shopping list one day, and added bottled water to the list, my husband suggested, “Why don’t we get a Brita?”

Help me fund my Nuit Blanche project at Scarborough Town Centre!

This year, Nuit Blanche is going to be in Scarborough for the first time. I’ve been going downtown for years to volunteer, participate and wander the streets of the city during Nuit Blanche. It’s my favourite Toronto festival. I’m really excited to share that I’ve been selected as an artist to exhibit at Nuit Blanche! My exhibition will be a throwback to the iconic hot air balloon installation that was dismantled in 2009.

Giant, billowy hot air balloons that ebbed and flowed into the air. These giant puffs of colour would ascend and descend in front of the Bay. Do you remember? If you ask most people who live in Scarborough, chances are that they have fond memories of being mesmerized by those balloons. My installation is a nod to this balloon installation.

Looking upward, visitors will see more than 100 hot air balloons suspended from the ceiling. The balloons will range in size from 1ft up to 6ft, and will be gently lit. The colours of the balloons will reflect the original installation colours. The balloons will be untouchable, but immersive. New visitors will delight in the beautiful sight, and past visitors to Scarborough Town will remember those hot air balloon giants that they experienced as a child.

The installation will be open to the public for free on September 29th, from sunset to sunrise, at Scarborough Town Centre.

I need your help to make my project come to life! I’ve launched a Kickstarter to help me meet my funding goal. Without funding, I won’t be able to do this fun installation! I would appreciate any help spreading the word, or any donations that you can make. Thank you! Find out more here.

Exploring Lisbon in ECCO Shoes

It’s no secret that ECCO is one of my favourite shoe brands. I have tons of shoes, and can’t resist adding a few more to my collection each season. Some shoes I only wear once or twice because they hurt too much. I can usually break in a pair of ECCO shoes after just one wear, and the quality is always excellent. (more…)

Summer Cottage Social at the Ritz-Carlton DEQ Patio

There’s no other way to say this. It’s crazy insane hot outside. It’s hitting 33 degrees almost every day this week. The nice thing about the hot weather, is that it’s a great excuse to hang out on a patio under a giant umbrella, sipping a cool drink. Enter the DEQ Terrace and Lounge at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. I went to the launch of their new summer menu, and to welcome their new executive chef.

Afternoon Tea at Ladurée Yorkdale

I was beyond thrilled when Ladurée opened up at Yorkdale mall. I’ve been a huge fan of Laduree ever since I went to their first patisserie in Paris. I knew I had to visit to try their afternoon tea.

When you step inside, you can’t miss their world famous macarons stacked in colourful hues. The famed macarons are flown in from Switzerland. There are 12 flavours of macarons ($3.50 each) available in store, and they sell out quickly. The macarons come in Pistachio, Chocolate Orange, Coffee, Rose Petal, Salted Caramel, Vanilla, Lemon, Orange Blossom, Ice Mint, Raspberry and Hazelnut. In Canada, we have a special maple syrup macaron.  (more…)

Will you accept this…. red and white wine?

I will let you know something about me. I have been a huge fan of the Bachelor franchise since Jake Pavelka’s season in 2010. Such a huge fan that I’ve never missed any episode of The Bachelor or Bachelorette both US and Canadian versions since Jake’s seasons including all the spin-off shows. So when I was offered the opportunity to review the new Bachelor Wines I didn’t hesitate, as I’m fan of the show and love trying out new wines.

The new Canadian-based Bachelor Wines feature two varietals: The Final Rose – a bold Cabernet Sauvignon and One on One – a spirited Pinot Grigio. (more…)
