When Fionn MacCool’s invited me to welcome patio season with a summer menu launch on their patio, I was an instant yes. I like Fionn MacCool’s and how they strive to have lots of Made-in-Pub items on their menu. You definitely wont find frozen french fries here.
Bryan Jurek has been the brand chef for over two years. He’s a Cordon Bleu trained chef and has cooked all around the world. There are 10 new dishes on the new menu.
This fun and delicious take on grilled cheese was a favourite of mine. The Latke Grilled Cheese is made with potato cakes and then layered with sour cream and Cahill’s Guinness Cheddar cheese. It’s topped with a pickle! Be sure to keep the pickle on when you bite in!
The Farmer’s Salad was my kind of salad. Not an iceberg lettuce leaf in sight, this salad featured spinach leaves with grilled red onion and roasted Yukon gold potatoes. It was then tossed in a honey mustard vinaigrette and topped with bacon and a hard boiled egg.
This very rich Lamb Pie was filled with Kilkenny braised lamb and served on a bed of sauteed spinach and mushrooms. Mmmm. They spent years researching this pie down to the amazing crust, and yes, it was worth it.
Tandoori Street Sandwich is grilled tandoori chicken wrapped in naan bread and topped with citrus mint yogurt. The tandoori sauce is made by a local family in Scarborough (cool) and the chicken is brined in house to make it juicier.
If you have room after all of that, congratulations, it’s time for dessert! Fried Bread Pudding is a nice way to end the meal. Brioche egg loaf bread pudding bites are fried, tossed in cinnamon sugar and topped with custard. It’s served with the most amazing salted butterscotch.
To wash it all down, there are two new cocktails.
