Brunch at Le Sélect Bistro

1-March 201411-DSC_0357Le Sélect Bistro is a charming place to have weekend brunch. It does feel as if one could be in Paris, instead of in Toronto. (Sigh. Paris.) Dark wood paneling, small fireplaces, comfy seating and quite a large space makes this a lovely spot. Also? They accept brunch reservations! Woo!

1-DSC_0367The brunch menu has expected french dishes, like quiche, croque-monsieur and croque-madame. Of course, brunch staples like omelettes, eggs benny, waffles and french toast are also available with a french twist.

1-DSC_0348The meal started with bread service of a roll and whipped butter. I thought that was interesting, I’ve never seen bread service for brunch in Toronto! Also, the bread was perfect- crispy on the outside and chewy inside.

1-DSC_0356I had a Croque-Monsieur ($13.95), because it’s one of my favourite things, and when I see it on a menu I order it. Thick slices of bread were gratinéed in Béchamel sauce with thin slices of ham inside. It was delicious and served with thin and crispy frites.

Service was friendly, prompt, and we never felt rushed to leave.

Other than that one tea snag, I would absolutely recommend brunch at this bistro! It’s perfect for a romantic brunch or having an upscale meal with friends.

Le Sélect Bistro is at 432 Wellington Street West, Toronto. www.leselect.com
