Got Brita? Living plastic bottle free

Living in a condo downtown has changed my lifestyle in tiny little ways that I didn’t expect to change. Some things I saw coming. Getting to the office from downtown is so much faster. I love being able to walk to different shops and bakeries. One thing I didn’t consider was my water consumption.
Before we moved into the condo, we had a fridge that had it’s own cold water and ice cubes. Now, our new fridge doesn’t have water and ice built in. As we adjusted to our new condo life, I found myself reaching for bottled water, over and over again. After checking out my shopping list one day, and added bottled water to the list, my husband suggested, “Why don’t we get a Brita?”

Bottled water is pretty bad for the environment. It generates unnecessary waste, and affects communities that need the water source for their own use. I don’t know why I’d never considered getting a Brita, but once he suggested it, the idea stuck!
We now have a black, 10 cup Brita pitcher. It’s a little tall, so we adjusted the height of the shelves in the fridge. The Brita now keeps our water fresh and cold, but also purifies it.
Our Brita comes with the new Longlast filter. The filter can last up to 6 months, which is 3 times longer than regular Brita filters. The filter removes lead, asbestos and cadmium from tap water. (It still leaves in some fluoride, which is good for your teeth. I wasn’t even aware that this was in our tap water.)
So why should you get a Brita?
1) Brita filters are eco-friendly
2) They’re really easy to refill, just place them in your sink under the tap, and let the water filter through.
3) They’re great for plants! Some of our plants are picky with tap water. Since switching to a Brita, they’ve been doing much better. (Seriously, my basil is thriving.)
