This summer has been one like I’ve never experienced before. Usually I love to explore and go on weekend getaways. Like many of you, I’ve been stressed out and put many of my plans on hold during the pandemic. It just didn’t seem safe to travel, and even just getting there seemed stressful. As things slowly improved in Ontario with the daily case numbers, I decided to venture out on a one-night weekend getaway close to home.
Algonquin Park has always been a place that I would visit in the fall, but never in the summer. Now was my chance! I found a lovely looking resort called Bartlett’s Lodge. I ensured that they were taking all the right steps to prevent coronovirus outbreaks, and booked a much-needed nature getaway.
Nestled in the heart of Algonquin Park, Bartlett Lodge has been welcoming guests since 1917. Thanks for working with me, Bartlett Lodge!
Just getting there is an adventure. Once you arrive at the park, you park your car and call them on a telephone. In no time at all, they’ll send over their vintage motorized canoe to pick you up and take you across the lake to the resort.
Or in our case, a covered boat, because it was pouring! After taking our temperature and helping us with our bags, we were off. Thankfully, as you can see from that blue sky peeking out, we enjoyed some good weather once we arrived.
Black Spruce Cabin was our home for the weekend. This picturesque 1 bedroom cabin has a king-size bed, adjoining living room and a screened-in porch. The resort has larger cabins for families and group trips.
It was really cute, and I loved the screened in porch. Through the trees, it had a nice view of the lake.

We went out for a relaxing canoe ride. It was really peaceful, and the lake was very calm. We could hear loons calling to each other. I definitely need to brush up on my canoe skills, and this was the perfect place to practice.
Meals are served on-site at their spacious restaurant. Stays include breakfast and dinner. We opted to enjoy our dinner outside on the dock with beautiful sunset views.
Dinner was so good! I loved the homemade pasta and dessert. The menu changes daily and is well prepared.
After a comfortable nights sleep, we picked up our breakfast and had a tasty meal by the lake. Can I just stay lakeside forever?
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. It was nice to unwind, and to enjoy a little bit of summer in these crazy pandemic times. If you’re looking for a quick escape, or the perfect spot to check out fall colours, visit Bartlett Lodge.
