Don’t tell anyone, but I think I may have a new favourite afternoon tea. The beautiful Holts Cafe at the Holt Renfew in Yorkville now serves afternoon tea! I can’t think of a more convenient and delicious way to relax after a day of shopping.
The full afternoon tea can be had for $39 per person, and it includes tea, savoury sandwiches, scones and dessert.
First, we began with the tea. We were presented a selection of Sloane teas in a tea chest. We had the Holt Renfrew Blend, a custom made tea with Ceylon and Assam black teas blended with Brazilian cocoa, currants and roses. It was a full bodied, flavourful tea, and we enjoyed it. Aren’t the tea cups beautiful? The tea is served with candied violets and candied roses. This is something that I haven’t seen done before, and it was a nice touch.
The Kitten and Bear (one of my favourite purveyors in the city) provide a rotating selection of artisan jams, and serve their buttermilk scones alongside their preserves. Devonshire cream and fresh butter are also served. Here’s what we had.
A orange marmalade made with the entire orange and honeyed whiskey, a plum, violet & blackberry jam and a strawberry cream with peach scnapps. The preserves were to die for! My personal favourite was the marmalade. The candied orange rinds were a nice treat. The scones were fluffy and perfect.
Next we started in on the selection of tea sandwiches. Smoked Salmon & Lemon Cream Cheese, Cucumber & Crème Fraîche, Chicken Truffle “Tartine” and the Caprese “Tartine”.
I enjoyed Caprese Tartine the most. I really liked the fresh mozzarella and roasted tomato. Yum.
Of course, we saved the best for last- dessert! For dessert there was a selection of macarons, truffles and pastries.
Our selection included Mini Mocha Macaron, Mini Calissous, Passion Fruit Éclairs, Mini Choux, Chocolate Fudge and Chocolate Bonbon. All of the desserts are made in house.
