summer is over + new website
Summer is over….I can’t believe it. I like fall though, and look forward to working hard this season!
I bought my own domain for all of the other stuff that I do. I am running a book club, for cooking and baking! It’s called the nutmeg pantry book club. we bake stuff and talk about recipe books! I’m also facilitating some workshops for seniors at Harbourfront Community Center.
Okay! Here are some quick watercolour comics that I drew in July!
Winterlicious Review: Bistro 990 $20 lunch
So I decided to try Bistro 990 as my first Winterlicious lunch of the season. It’s claim to fame is that it’s the TIFF go to, so I grabbed a friend and checked it out. From outside, it isn’t much to look at, but inside is beautiful. We were ushered to a cozy corner table.
I started with the Leek & Potato Soup, Shaved Truffle Infused Pecorino Cheese, while my friend had the Bistro House Mixed Salad, Balsamic Vinaigrette. We were served two pieces of french bread, which was (oddly, but not unbecomingly) salted. Perhaps this was a taste of what was to come?
I was pleasantly pleased with my soup. I am not much of a soup drinker, but it was delicious, with the exact amount of thickness and flavour. The Pecorino cheese was a tasty addition. My companion enjoyed her salad.

The main course arrived. I had chosen the Black Angus Beef Burger, Aged White Cheddar, Garlic Toast and Frites. My friend had the Sole Filet à la Meunière. I thought that her sole portion looked a little small, but maybe that was just me. I was a bit surprised to see my burger served without a bun, but wasn’t really bothered. The burger was excellent quality and very flavorful. I found the garlic bread a little tasteless and hard. I also noticed that it was the same salted house french bread…an odd combination for garlic bread. Not only that, but they were a little burnt. The frites were nice and crisp. I didn’t feel that they were housemade, though.
My friend took one bite of her sole and commented that it was wayy too salty. I tried a piece and it was. It was too salty with an overpowering lemon flavour. She also didn’t seem too impressed by the bed of linguine the sole was served on. Our waitress noticed that she hadn’t eaten much, and asked if everything was okay. My friend told her that it was a bit too salty for her, and she was asked if she would like anything else but she declined. We were a bit disappointed with our main course, after being started off with such excellent appetizers.

For dessert, we had the Crème Brulée and Apple Crumble, Vanilla Bean & Bourbon Ice Cream. Both were presented quite nicely. The creme brulee was in a tea cup, and my (tiny) scoop of vanilla ice cream was in a cute spoon rest. I found my apple crumble a bit on the cool side, the the apples being just a tad too crisp for my liking in a crumble. Both desserts with served with a tiny assortment of fruits. My companions Creme Brulee made a satisfying crack as she tapped it with her spoon, and declared it delicious.

Overall, I was underwhelmed by Bistro 990. The service was good, the food was generally good quality, but could have been way way better. Portion sizes were mostly adequate, and I was left feeling full and satisfied, if not eleated.

Wow, I don’t have 10 movies. I still haven’t seen Coco Avant Chanel, or The Princess and the Frog, or that bollywood movie about horoscopes. =( I’m sure those would have made my list.

I’m always a little surprised when someone starts following me on twitter. I hardly use it, and I have like, 5 friends.
But I’m realizing that maybe updating my twitter status, or watching the status of businesses or communities could be interesting.
If anyone is interested, here’s my twitter.
catch me if you can…
iphone stuff
Not that you care, but I like to fancy myself a techie kind of girl.
I’ve been trying to SSH my iphone to the computer for ages,
and it kept timing out. Last night, I was finally able to SSH themes to my phone, and I’m really happy!
I intend to make a NANA anime theme eventually.
Anyways, my phone looks like this now.

I’m using a theme called Damino, and I am currently in love with it.
I’m trying to get a lockscreen that looks like this because it’s -beautiful- and I love it. I think I’ve found the way to do it at mytriniphone but it’s not working on my phone!
I will get it to work. The reason I like my iphone is not because it’s such a great phone,
but because it can keep me entertained with all of the modifications I can add to it.
Jailbreake, of course.

twilight: a summary
BELLA moves to new town. Upon arrival, she is immeitally loved by all.
In new school, Bella sees group of freakishly pale people, who are all wearing white, like it’s 1997 and like labour day hasn’t past. All except one. One boy, who we later learn is EDWARD. Bella and Edward stare uncomfortably at each other for inexplicable reasons.
NEXT SCENE: Bella enters science classroom. All is well, until Bella walks in front of a fan, fanning her hair IN SLOW MO bringing her tasty delicious scent to Edward’s nostrils. Edward’s eyes fill with hate and he abruptly leaves the room.
Edward is absent for weeks. Edward returns, and is back in science class.
He tries to make the most uncomfortably awkward conversation I have ever seen on a screen to date.
“You’re asking me about the weather?” Bella manages to choke out in her strange form of speech. [ YES Bella. The weather. It isn't THAT odd. ] Bella and Edward become friends…sort of.
Stuff happens. Edward saves Bella from a potential car accident. Dr.Cullen looks undeniably gay. More close-ups ensue.
Bella does some hard-core Googling. She realises that Edward is IMPOSSIBLY FAST. Has COLD SKIN. Doesn’t come out in the DAYLIGHT [ due to body glitter, but we'll get there later. ]
In a smart move, she confronts Edward, alone, in the forest. “I know what you are,” she says, trembling even though she’s had the whole night to think about it. “SAY IT!” Edward demands. “A VAMPIRE. “
twilight: why it sucked

The horribly awkward chemistry between Edward and Bella

The ugliness of Edward

how…long…it….took each…sentence….to…form

the strange exasperated sounds Bella would add in for each and every emotion

Jacob’s nose

The extreme body glitter that keeps Edward out of the sun.

The uncomfortably long close-ups.
