[ Win it ] Let’s Go to the Ex!

I’ve been going to the CNE with my family since I was a little girl. It’s a tradition that I’ve rarely strayed from each year. Even now that I’m an adult (when did that happen?) I still go with my parents and sister each year. This year I’ll be including my husband on the fun.

The food is a huge draw. The Food building is my jam, and it’s packed with lobster rolls, crazy burgers, raclette, bao tacos, and so much more. There’s always something new to check out each year. The CNE hasn’t announced what wild and wacky food they’ll be having this year, but I bet it will be something unique and tasty.

As a testament to the popularity of Toronto’s ever growing list of night markets, the CNE will be hosting its very own Asian food market this year. Visitors can check out the market from August 30th to September 3rd.

This year, it’s the 125th anniversary of the debut of the Ferris wheel. The Ferris wheel was invented in Chicago. Be sure to ride the giant Ferris wheel in honour of this anniversary this summer.

This year, in honor of the year of Canada-China Tourism. 50 artists created 17 illuminated giant silk lanterns. It sounds beautiful, and I’m excited to see them.

What are some of your summer traditions? Do you go to the Ex each year with your family? Or will this be your first time? I’ve partnered with the CNE to giveaway general admission passes and Ride All Day Passes to the CNE this summer! To enter, see below. Be sure to follow me on Instagram and Twitter for more chances to win!

Win Tickets to the Toronto Cider Festival

In this beer obsessed world, I’m so happy that cider has found a place to grow and get bigger and bigger. I’m not knocking beer, but cider is my brew of choice. (What’s yours?)

My favourite drinks festival is back for 4th year of spreading the cider love! The Toronto Cider Festival will happen on August 24th & 25th at the Sherbourne Common, right by the waterfront.

This festival is tons of fun and a great way to get exposure to new ciders that you may not have tried before. There’s nothing better than spending a summer evening sipping cider next to Lake Ontario. This year the theme is wild Western and each session will have over 100 taps of cider available.

Got Brita? Living plastic bottle free

Living in a condo downtown has changed my lifestyle in tiny little ways that I didn’t expect to change. Some things I saw coming. Getting to the office from downtown is so much faster. I love being able to walk to different shops and bakeries. One thing I didn’t consider was my water consumption.
Before we moved into the condo, we had a fridge that had it’s own cold water and ice cubes. Now, our new fridge doesn’t have water and ice built in. As we adjusted to our new condo life, I found myself reaching for bottled water, over and over again. After checking out my shopping list one day, and added bottled water to the list, my husband suggested, “Why don’t we get a Brita?”

Help me fund my Nuit Blanche project at Scarborough Town Centre!

This year, Nuit Blanche is going to be in Scarborough for the first time. I’ve been going downtown for years to volunteer, participate and wander the streets of the city during Nuit Blanche. It’s my favourite Toronto festival. I’m really excited to share that I’ve been selected as an artist to exhibit at Nuit Blanche! My exhibition will be a throwback to the iconic hot air balloon installation that was dismantled in 2009.

Giant, billowy hot air balloons that ebbed and flowed into the air. These giant puffs of colour would ascend and descend in front of the Bay. Do you remember? If you ask most people who live in Scarborough, chances are that they have fond memories of being mesmerized by those balloons. My installation is a nod to this balloon installation.

Looking upward, visitors will see more than 100 hot air balloons suspended from the ceiling. The balloons will range in size from 1ft up to 6ft, and will be gently lit. The colours of the balloons will reflect the original installation colours. The balloons will be untouchable, but immersive. New visitors will delight in the beautiful sight, and past visitors to Scarborough Town will remember those hot air balloon giants that they experienced as a child.

The installation will be open to the public for free on September 29th, from sunset to sunrise, at Scarborough Town Centre.

I need your help to make my project come to life! I’ve launched a Kickstarter to help me meet my funding goal. Without funding, I won’t be able to do this fun installation! I would appreciate any help spreading the word, or any donations that you can make. Thank you! Find out more here.

Exploring Lisbon in ECCO Shoes

It’s no secret that ECCO is one of my favourite shoe brands. I have tons of shoes, and can’t resist adding a few more to my collection each season. Some shoes I only wear once or twice because they hurt too much. I can usually break in a pair of ECCO shoes after just one wear, and the quality is always excellent. (more…)

Summer Cottage Social at the Ritz-Carlton DEQ Patio

There’s no other way to say this. It’s crazy insane hot outside. It’s hitting 33 degrees almost every day this week. The nice thing about the hot weather, is that it’s a great excuse to hang out on a patio under a giant umbrella, sipping a cool drink. Enter the DEQ Terrace and Lounge at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. I went to the launch of their new summer menu, and to welcome their new executive chef.
