Winter Getaway to St.Maarten’s

One day, while at Pearson Airport for a press trip, a woman walked by me with a beautiful blue Heys suitcase. It was love at first sight! I admired it and went on my way. A month later, I was walking past Bentley and I noticed the suitcase in the window! It was fate.

I’m very particular about my suitcases. You’ll never catch me with a plain black suitcase. First of all, it’s really hard to spot on the luggage carousal. Second of all, I like to make a statement when I travel, and this is an easy way to do it. My current collection includes a polka dot suitcase, one covered with Canadiana illustrations and now, this one! (more…)

[Read it!] Cozy Knits are Perfect for Winter

I’m a beginner knitter, and I love to knit up warm things to wear (and gift!) in the winter months. My favourite knits are big, cozy chunky knits. I’ve tried to wean myself off them by buying thinner, fancier yarns. Those yarns stay untouched and I always gravitate to my thicker yarns. Oh well! I’ve decided to embrace it with two new books filled with chunky, warm patterns.

In Big Knits, Big Needles, there are 20 different knitting projects. Are you a beginner like me? No problem! There’s a step by step tutorial section that teaches you all of the techniques you need to follow. This book is packed with sweaters, cardigans, hats, scarves and more. The photos are also awesome, and everything looks beautiful.

arm knitting

I’ve also decided that I want to learn how to arm knit! My friends have created some pretty cool looking blankets and comfy shawls with this technique. In Arm Knitting, you’ll become a pro in no time. These patterns knit of fast, and best of all require no needles! Choose from 30 different patterns and make scarves, bags and even wreaths! I’m excited to make some new projects this year! Which book would you pick?

NARS Soft Matte Concealer

NARS creamy radiant concealer is a fan favourite, so naturally we were super excited to try out their new Soft Matte Complete Concealer! The product comes in a little jar which means it will definitely last a long time, complete with 16 shades. It claims to have a very high coverage, and a weightless wear. It also will have a natural finish, and will blur imperfections with help from an optimal diffusion powder, which also helps the concealer to stay in place. (more…)

AGO Mystical Landscapes: Masterpieces from Monet, Van Gogh and more

There’s something so calming about visiting the AGO Mystical Landscapes exhibition. I chose to go on a Wednesday, because the AGO is open late (and it’s free!) on Wednesdays. Although Mystical Landscapes doesn’t have free admission on Wednesdays, the exhibit was still packed.

Despite that, there was something awe inspiring in being in the same room with these peaceful, and sometimes unsettling, masterpieces. The crowd fades away as you take in each work of art.

The years between 1880 and 1930 were marked by rampant materialism and rapid urbanization. Disillusioned with traditional religious institutions, many European, Scandinavian and North American artists searched for an unmediated spiritual path through mystical experiences. Organized in partnership with the renowned Musée d’Orsay in Paris, Mystical Landscapes: Masterpieces from Monet, Van Gogh and more breaks new art historical ground, exploring the mystical experiences of 37 artists from 14 countries, including Emily Carr, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, Claude Monet, Edvard Munch, Georgia O’Keeffe and James McNeill Whistler.

Hello 2017!

It’s 2017! Last year was pretty awesome. I’m looking forward to a year full of some big firsts. Getting married, buying (hopefully!) a condo and a honeymoon! Bring it, 2017. 🙂
