Weekend Getaway: Stratford, Ontario

A visit to Stratford in the fall has been on my list for quite some time. Whenever I visit Stratford, I’m always blown away by their amazing food offerings and charming downtown area. I always leave with a cooler full of delicious food! Thinking of planning your own trip to Stratford soon? Here’s what you should add to your list.

Where to Stay: Lofts at 99

Lofts at 99 is located above a bar, but don’t let that deter you. When we checked in, it was late at night and the bar was loud and filled with customers. However, when I walked up the flight of stairs and down the hallway to my room, it was silent. Despite the room being so close to the bar downstairs, we couldn’t hear a peep from the bar, which was great. (more…)

Checking into the Kimpton Nine Zero in Boston

Credit: Kimpton Hotels

At the end of the summer, I visited Boston for the first time, and loved it The entire city is steeped in history, they have beautiful gardens and plenty of shopping. When it was time to leave I wish I could have stayed a bit longer!

We drove to Boston from Toronto, and underestimated both Boston and Toronto traffic. Because of that, we checked in a little late to the Kimpton Nine Zero Hotel.

I’m sure that you’re already aware of my love affair with Kimpton properties. I always look forward to checking into a Kimpton, because each one is different.

We stayed in a room with 2 Queen beds with luxe Frette linens and funky wallpaper with unique metallic accents.

The amenities in the bathroom included bath and body items from Atelier Bloem. They smelled wonderful, and I appreciated that they included a set for everyone staying in the room.

We were greeted with some delicious treats wating for us in our room upon check in. I love that FRED water! Such nice design.

We took advantage of a unique program that the Kimpton has called Guppy Love. We borrowed a goldfish for the night!

This little guy hung out with us, and arrived with his own food. It was a nice touch!

As is the norm with all Kimptons, the staff were friendly, helpful and warm. If you feel like biking around town, you can always borrow one of their custom bikes.

In the lobby, the hotel offers a wine tasting hour daily from 5pm to 6pm. I had a refreshing glass of rose after a day filled with wandering around the city.

The location of the Nine Zero is amazing. Right across the street is the Granary Burial Ground, the third oldest (founded in 1660!) graveyard in Boston. Some notable figures have been laid to rest there, and you can go on tours.

Further down the street, the Boston Common claims the title of the oldest park in the USA. This bustling urban park was wonderful to stroll through. We even walked over to the public gardens and admired the beautiful weeping willows.

Last but not least, the hotel is within walking distance of several shops, including my absolute favourite store, Primark!! I didn’t even realize it was in the USA. It was the best!

Not the wandering type? Need a little guidance? The Kimpton Nine Zero has you covered with Ricardo Rodriguez, their Style & Experience Curator. He’s pulled together a curated selection of lifestyle retailers that have partnered with the hotel to offer guests exclusive experiences and discounts around the city. Sounds awesome, right? Check out his recommendations and their Live Like a Local program. Happy exploring!

The Kimpton Nine Zero is at 90 Tremont Street in Boston, MA

Celebrate Pizza Month at Queen Margherita Pizza

Some magical being has declared October National Pizza Month, and I’m all too happy to oblige. Pizza is kind of the perfect food for me because it combines my two great loves (cheese and bread) into one delicious package. Mmm. Pizza.

To celebrate, Queen Margherita Pizza has a special all month long. You can enjoy a fresh Margherita Pizza with Fior di Latte and Fresh Basil along with a Sleemen¬†beer for only $10 during the entire month of October. It’s an awesome deal, their Margherita pizza has the BEST sauce and perfect crust.

Here’s an inspirational photo.

Fall Colours in Ontario Parks

Fall is my favourite season. I love the vibrant colours, the crunch of the leaves and the cooling weather. I always make it a point to see the fall colours in Toronto, and then take a road trip somewhere else to see the fall colours there too. If you can, I would take a long drive up to Algonquin park.

fallc To make sure that you don’t miss the fall colours, use the Ontario Parks Fall Colour Report. This report keeps track of the fall colours in all of the Ontario Parks. With a glance you’ll be able to see if your favourite park is in peak, past peak or hasn’t changed yet.

Paramount Fine Foods Brunch

One of my favorite Middle-Eastern Restaurants, Paramount, is now an option for Sunday morning brunch! Starting October 24th, the restaurant will be launching their breakfast campaign complete with Middle Eastern, and Canadian staples. I was lucky to be able to have a special preview of the new and traditional additions to the menu.

Some of the items that will be served are: Eggs and Sausage, Omelet with a variety of veggies such as onions and bell peppers, and my favorite, the Manakeesh which is a Middle Eastern breakfast special, sort of like a bagel, almost like a pizza. The Manakeesh is best described as baked dough with thyme, cheese or meat.

Here are my favorite items from the breakfast menu:

Zaatar/Cheese Manakeesh $2.99-$4.99 (Depending on which flavor)img_6379

This Manakeesh had two different styles to try. The spices on one side were thyme, sesame seeds and olive oil. It was a nice combination with the other half which was melted akawi cheese.
