Valentine’s Day is kind of my favourite holiday ever! I was very happy to be able to partner with one of my favourite coffee shops, Aroma Espresso Bar, to collaborate with some of my favourite social people to celebrate all things hearts and hot chocolate.
Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid are an ode to the makeup trends of the 90s. Many brands are coming out with their own version of matte lipsticks with variations or reds, pinks and everyone’s recent favorite: nudes. This is probably one of my favorite Maybelline packaging.

The lipsticks come in clear rectangle tubes with a sponge applicator. The formula is very fluid and bright in colour which is great. The only fault? Once on the colour was not completely matte until blotted with a few dabs of tissue. Overall, the lipstick line is a nice addition, full of vibrant colours and a creamy formula.

At FFWD Advertising and Marketing Week, hosted by the ICA, I attended some interesting lectures. My favourite talk was from Facebook Canada, owners of Instagram. They shared some cool stats about Instagram that I’d love to share with you!
Instagram is my favourite social media platform. It’s so visual and beautiful. I love to use it to find new things to eat and places to go. And I’m not alone!
Millennials are the top users of Instagram (that’s me!), making up 70% of all users. On average, we use Instagram for 21 minutes per day. Instagram is great for capturing and sharing world moments. There are 80 million photos shared per day, and 3.5 billion likes per day. Women tailor content around human elements, while men share travel and city pride.
So why do millennials use Instagram?
74% take actions based on posts.
46% say Instagram brings out creativity
48% follow brands on Instagram
39% use Instagram so they don’t miss out. (FOMO is real!)
45% follow brands that inspire them.
36% of Canadian posts use hashtags.
#smile #positivity #iloveyou are the most popular.

In a small room above Kinton Ramen 2, skewers of meat are grilling on an open grill. Welcome to Kintori Yakitori. So what’s yakitori? To put it simply, grilled skewers of chicken. Now, yakitori can be any type of grilled meat, fish, or veggies. The bamboo skewers and charcoal are imported from Japan. The intimate space features an open grill where you can see your skewers being cooked and some wallpaper that I really liked. Kintori Yakitori is part of the Kinka family, owners of Kinka Izakaya.
The menu is varied, and features yakitori, of course, but also other items. Before we dug into the skewers, we had a series of appetizers and cocktails.
The drinks menu has cocktails, beer, wine and sake. How delicious does this “squeeze your own” grapefruit vodka drink look?

In the Toronto centric war of the Neapolitan pizza restaurants, Queen Margherita pizza would always get my vote. Not only is their pizza always freshly prepared in their wood burning ovens with a deliciously blistered crust, but the restaurants themselves are beautiful spaces.
For a date night, Queen Margherita is a sure bet for a romantic atmosphere and excellent food. I went to their Dundas W and College location at 772 Dundas Street W. Check out other locations here.
This location was bustling on a Saturday night. On the main level you’ll find the bar, and to get to the main dining area you head down a short flight of stairs into their large open dining room. The best bang for your buck (and your stomach) is their prix fixe menu. For $29, you get your choice of appetizer, any pizza and any dessert.
I spotted Arancini on the app menu and couldn’t resist ordering it. The Arancini were fried into perfect balls and filled with rice, mushrooms, parmigiano cheese and caramelized onions. They were packed with flavour and were deliciously cheesy.

For me, the quintessential night at the movies is one of my favourite date nights. What’s not to love about sharing a buttery bag of popcorn with your date and settling in to watch your film of choice? Cineplex has found a way to elevate the movie experience to perfection.
Cineplex VIP is an upscale, 19+ theater with plush leather seats, seat side service (That’s right. The popcorn comes to you.) and a special menu available in their exclusive lounge area. There are several locations. I visited their Yonge & Eglinton location. Here, the VIP area is its own section within the larger theater, and you need a ticket to access the screens and lounge. (more…)
