Arthur Mendonça’s Spring/Summer 13 Collection

I was incredibly lucky to be sitting up close (front row!) of the Arthur Mendonça show at World Master Card Fashion Week. This collection featured vibrant colours, sharp cuts and an interesting kimono/obi like influence on his dresses. I really enjoyed it and took a ton of photos. Check it out!

 

Rachel Sin at World Mastercard Fashion Week

I really enjoyed the Rachel Sin show at World Master Card Fashion Week! Her collection was inspired by 1950s shapes. Blazers in black and beige with surprising delicate lace accents and unique cut outs featured prominently in her collection.


Backstage, Maybelline worked hard to create Rachel Sin’s retro Mad Men look.

Grace Lee is the head makeup artist. She created a feline look, doubling up the liner on the lashline and in the crease. She used Eye Studio Master Precise Ink Pen Eyeliner to create this accentuated, ladylike eye.

Fall is perfect for tea!

Something about fall makes me want to curl up with a giant cup of tea. Especially with this wet, rainy weather! David’s Tea is one of the best places in the city to sip, smell and experience new flavours of tea. The following flavours are part of their Fall collection and were created with the outdoors in mind.

Toasted Marshmallow is a black tea with marshmallow, brittle pieces, cinnamon, allspice and roasted kukicha green tea. I really want to try this one!

This Pumpkin Chai tea is my favourite fall tea from David’s. It’s a black tea made with cinnamon, cloves, lemon peel, squash, carrot, caramel bits and pumpkin candies. It is a spicy, energetic tea.

Banana nut bread is a sweet herbal tea comprised of dates, currants, almonds and banana pieces and slices. Sounds relaxing!

Instagram Page-a-Day Calendar

Great news. Know how you’ve pretty much been living on Instagram this year (don’t deny it.)?  Now you can do something über useful with those pictures! Printstagram prints various Instagram items, but their best product is the page-a-day calendar…featuring your own photos!

You can choose from three different styles, and it will cost you $40 a pop. I love this idea and will be ordering one…if I have enough photos to fill it!

Kate Spade announces Saturday

If you read this blog, I think it’s safe to say that it’s no surprise to find out that I love Kate Spade. She’s launching a brand new brand called Saturday. This brand is for a younger demographic (25-35….me!) and is meant to capture the spirit of Saturday, 7 days a week. New items will be released each Saturday in-store. The new line will include dresses, jackets, jeans, t-shirts, sweaters, handbags, jewelry, watches,shoes, home décor items and more. These items will be about 50% cheaper than Kate Spade New York. Think: clothing ($90), handbags ($130), jewelry ($30) and shoes ($85).

You’ll have to wait a bit to get your hands on it though. Saturday will launch Spring 2013 in the US online and in Feb 2013 for Japan (online and flagship).  As for Canada…well, we’re left out as usual. Hopefully, with the arrival of Kate Spade New York in Yorkdale Mall next month, this will change. If you are savvy shipping things from the US, fab.com will offer an early access sale sometime next year before the US launch! I can’t wait!

Firkin Pub launches a tasty revolution!

I was excited to be invited to taste Firkin pub’s new menu! They are undergoing a serious re-launch. When I think about the Firkin pubs, all I remember a series of hilarious commercials that they had a couple of years ago (“Um, is this like a Firkin pub?”  “Why yes, Britney, it is!” Does anyone remember those??).  And that they had pretty good chicken strips. Of course, when I think of them now, all I can remember is this awesome meal.

For their 25th anniversary, they’ve re-branded themselves into a sleek modern pub! The new design features a fresh, contemporary décor, a brand new menu, British cultural insignias and a curated list of cocktails, wines and craft beers.

I started with a Pineapple Upside Down Cake cocktail (smirnoff vanilla vodka, pineapple juice, orange, cherry and geraldine ) and it was delicious.

The first dish was the Crispy Fish Tacos. Snapper was lightly battered in tempura and served with pico de gallo and guac. It was very light and fresh.

I’m not a big salad girl (why eat salad when you can eat…anything else?) but the Cobb salad was next, and I loved it. It was my first Cobb salad, so maybe I’ve just been eating the wrong salads? The roasted turkey breast, boiled egg, avocado and blue cheese made this salad a winner in my book.

The Stuffed Yorkie was a miniature Yorkshire pudding with tender braised pot roast and creamy mashed potatoes. Yum!

At this point I was already full, but my favourite dish was next….

Just writing about the Big Hog poutine is making me crave it! This delicious mound of maple BBQ pulled pork, bacon and mozzarella cheese was fantastic. It was also served in an adorable little cast iron pot. My favourite dish!

The red snapper was sauteed and finished in the oven with white wine. The fish was tasty, and the lemon herb potatoes and tomatoes served with this were bursting with flavour.

At this point, I was incredibly full…but dessert was next! This warm sticky toffee pudding was a delicious end to a brilliant meal.

I also managed to try a hot Tootsie Roll drink, which was a yummy concoction of chocolate, grand mariner, and vodka among other things. Delicious!

After the dinner was the jam packed after party! Pinky’s nails were on hand to give Brit inspired mini manis.I loved it!

Bottom line: You need to get yourself to a Firkin pub! The upgraded menu and updated decor makes this a perfect place to grab dinner, or just hang out. Check out the menu here.
