Expedia.ca asked me if I was interested in going to Ottawa, and I said yes! Ottawa is one of those cities that I feel like I always breeze through. It’s so close! In less than 1 hour by plane, you’ll be in a city where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s face graces cookies. For real. I visited recently for a weekend and took my time to savour the city. Here’s what I did!
What to Eat
It can be hard to get reservations to Sidedoor in ByWard Market. We didn’t get reservations, but managed to squeeze into the bar area. We enjoyed jerk chicken tacos and a slew of amazing donuts, served warm! Mmm.
The Sconewitch will always be near and dear to my heart. This brunch spot serves up breakfast sandwiches on house baked scones. I always visit to pick up a dozen scones to bring home. My favourites? The Feta and the Cheddar scones are both delicious.
Where to Stay
The opulent Fairmont Chateau Laurier Hotel is the perfect place to stay in Ottawa. You can walk to the ByWard Market from here and to other downtown spots. The rooms were comfy and they offer a killer Sunday brunch!
What to Do
The ByWard Market is a must! This historic building has lots of delicious stalls and an outdoor market as well. Yes, you can buy cookies with Trudeau’s face on it from Moulin De Provence. Yes, they taste amazing.
We enjoyed walking through the Canadian Museum of Nature to check out dinosaur bones and bug exhibits. My favourite part was the giant squid installation.
Of course, no visit to Ottawa is complete without a stroll around Parliament. You can even tour inside.
Where to Shop
Stunning Ottawa had some eclectic jewellery pieces and was just a fun store overall.
I loved quirky housewares store Zone. Packed with cool light fixtures, whale print oven mitts, funky purses and jewelry, I could have spent hours in here.
I had a great time exploring Ottawa, and I hope that these tips have helped you plan your visit!
